Symposium
How Insect Are We? Pestival Symposium
Swarm to join some of the world’s leading thinkers and makers to discover how insects have shaped literature and art, science, architecture and design and even the human mind and behaviour. And you will have the chance to ask questions to find out more.
Speakers include TED speaker and the leading ant biologist Deborah M Gordon; one of the world’s leading designers who works across neuroscience, engineering and biomimicry, Natalie Jeremijenko; and the cultural and literary critic Professor Steven Connor who will demonstrate how flies have made more than a fleeting contribution to literature and art.
Roger Highfield, editor of New Scientist magazine, will chair the Symposium.
After all, eighty percent of creatures on earth are insects, the ‘pests’ without whom humans wouldn’t survive. Pestival celebrates the hundreds of millions of years of evolution, which places insects at the heart of human existence.
