We have commissioned a number of short films from new and established filmmakers. These will be shown in a special auditorium on the Thursday night.

Plus: Ladislaw Starewicz’s The Cameraman’s Revenge, a 1912 animation using real insects, with a new, specially commissioned live soundtrack.

AND Phase IV, a mesmerising, thoughtful 1974 eco-science fiction film, directed by Saul Bass. Bass designed the opening sequences for many of Alfred Hitchcock’s films. This was his only feature credit as director. The haunting electronic soundtrack comes from David Vorhaus of White Noise.

This will be followed by a panel discussion on insects in cinema, featuring cultural historians and naturalists David Rothenberg, Bridget Nicholls, Claire Preston & Malcolm Tait. The discussion will be chaired by Mark Pilkington.

OTHER SCREENINGS

There will be daily screenings of Ants and A Bug's Life at 10.45am throughout the week as well as a continuous loop of festival entries.
