Welcome to the all new Pestival website
Pestival is a revolutionary ongoing experiment, designed to turn our preconceived ideas about insects inside out. A multi-disciplined team of expert scientists, international artists, musicians, comedians, naturalists and film makers have combined their talents to stage a bi-annual roving Arts Festival celebrating and investigating the lives of insects. Please have fun looking around and if you want to tell us about a new insect film, experiment, technology, artist, group or species then please do get in touch, we look forward to hearing from you.

Announcing the Mobile Brownfield Site!

Plans for an exciting new Pestival art piece by Bob and Roberta Smith are underway. The ‘Mobile Brownfield’ site will be a travelling wildlife garden designed to be a home for insects. The idea for the piece was spurred by recent news stories about the decline of starlings in English gardens caused by a lack if insects, and by the worrying trend to designate our gardens as ‘brownfield’ sites for developers.
For Pestival Bob and Roberta Smith will create art works which are both visually exciting for humans and habitats for insects… or even habitats for humans and visually exciting for insects. These works will then be transported from Leytonstone to the Southbank.
More details on this piece will be posted in the Programme closer to the event.

Day Trip

This photo is of the day Alistair and I went to meet Rupert Soar in Loughborough for the first time. We realised that we were working towards the same objectives but on parallel lines and therefore it would be perfect to collaborate.
In the photo, you will see it is the end of a long day – Rupert has been explaining to us (with lots of different slide shows and tools and methods, and for eight hours!) about rapid manufacturing, engineering and termites. Here we’re just having some down time with his family before we set off home on the train. A great partnership between TERMES and Pestival had begun. This is the start of our main collaborative piece – The Tower of Life, which is to be the focal point of the Pestival to be housed on the Southbank.
